Q & A with Adam Brand

Aussie country musician Adam Brand is well established within the country music scene which comes at no surprise given his track record of chart topping, toe tapping hits such as ‘Dirt Track Cowboy’ and ‘The Anzac’.

Performing as part of Sydney’s premier country music festival, the award winning artist will be giving audiences a taste of his greatest hits during his first performance of his 20 year milestone anniversary tour in 2018.

Q: What can audiences expect from your upcoming performance at Country Rocks Festival Sydney?

A: This year is my 20 anniversary since my first album was released so expect to hear songs from the very beginning of my career to my very latest releases and maybe even something brand new and yet to be released.

Q: What’s your song making process? How has it changed over time?

A: As a songwriter I’m always looking for a cool new twist of phrase, an interesting story or something that just sounds a little different in my every day conversations. These become seeds that many times sprout a song, so careful what you say around me as it may wind up in my next song!

Q: You’ve won countless awards, released numerous albums and managed to retain a loyal fan base for all these years. What do you credit your success to?

A: I feel unbelievably blessed to be still performing and recording after 20 years and it’s all because of the support and loyalty of country music fans. I always want to be accessible to my fans, identify with them and most of all give me to them. I don’t ever want put on a face or an act for them, sometimes they see the polished side of me and sometimes they see the embarrassing and not so polished side of me but it’s always real.

Q: What’s been your career highlight so far?

A: Reaching 20 years is definitely a highlight! For a bloke who didn’t even know how to hold a guitar let alone play one and sing publicly, reaching this milestone is definitely a highlight.

Q: Being in the industry so long, I would assume you have many young country music artists coming up to you and asking for advice. What do you tell them?

A: I tell them be real. Do it for the right reasons – not because you think you’ll make money, or be famous. Do it because it’s the only thing you think about day and night.

Q: Did anyone give you advice that has helped in your own music career?

A: I was told to work hard and surround myself with good people… great advice for anyone on the planet I’d say.

Q: What’s next?

A: I’m taking my 20 year milestone anniversary tour all over Australia in the second part of 2018, kicking off at Country Rocks!
