For 49 years Castle Hill Art Society has been running its Annual Arts Awards and Exhibition as part of The Hills Shire Orange Blossom Festival.
The awards continue to draw crowds from near and far and have the ability to propel up-and-coming artists into the spotlight.
The exhibition will be on show from 21st to the 23rd September at Castle Glen Community Centre, Ridgecrop Drive, Castle Hill (behind Knightsbridge shops), from 9am – 4.30pm.
Entries are open until 29th August and entry forms can be directly downloaded from the Castle Hill Art Society’s website, www.castlehillartsociety.org.au.
The sections include traditional oil painting, traditional acrylic, pure watercolour, pastel and works on paper, contemporary and small paintings.
“The adult section is open not only to people within The Shire, but also to the wider community, and there is some great prize money to be won,” Castle Hill Art Society President, Jill Bluzmanis said.
“All artwork on display is for sale. It’s the perfect gift for Christmas, for a family member or someone special,” Ms Bluzmanis said.
Castle Hill Art Society member, Julie Bhatia, said it didn’t matter what level or experience you had – from hobbyist to professional artist – now is the perfect time to enter your artworks into the annual competition.
“It’s great to see people who have a passion for art, especially our newer artists, so excited about what they’ve entered,” Ms Bhatia said.
“I did just that when I first entered into the Awards. I just thought my artwork was very ordinary but others thought differently and I received a Highly Commended, which was really exciting and encouraging.”
The Children’s Award night is on the 28th September with the exhibition open on the 29th September.
“Here in The Hills the children are very passionate about their artwork and we love people coming to see their wonderful creations and offering encouragement,” Ms Bluzmanis added.
The Awards also provide the perfect time to join the Castle Hill Art Society.
Classes and workshops in all media are held for adults, with after-school and Saturday classes for children.
Art demonstration evenings by well-known artists are held on the first Wednesday of each month (except January), with members and visitors welcome.
