Say hello to one of the new Sydney Hills Youth Ambassadors for 2020/2021 – Hayley Irving.
Focus caught up Hayley to discuss her goals for the future and what she hopes to achieve during her time as a Youth Ambassador.
Q: What are your goals for the future?
- The biggest goal of mine is to make a legislative difference to some degree with climate change, especially in terms of protecting marine life.
Q: What do you hope to achieve during your time as a Hills Shire Youth Ambassador?
- During my time as Youth Ambassador, I want to be able to help other teens and young adults in the Hills get involved with politics and making big changes. I love this opportunity I’ve been granted to encourage others in achieving their goals, and not to be hindered by age.
Q: Is there any particular topic you would like to focus on during your term?
- During these next 12 months, I really want to create more opportunities for young kids and teenagers to get together and get involved with looking after the world around us. On top of this, I want to show the youth that it’s okay to be outspoken about how we treat the land we stand on and the animals we live with.
Q: What made you want to become a Youth Ambassador?
- When I heard about Youth Ambassadors on Facebook, I knew this would be an amazing way to make a real difference to the world around me. I have strong passions about social justice, science and political matters, and this role is an amazing way to express that. Most of all, I loved the idea of giving a voice to other kids and teens that really want to make a difference, just like me.
